These are my predictions I am going to make for the upcoming premier league season, now I am making this just a couple of days before we get underway for the 24/25 season. The transfer window has still got a couple weeks left so some big transfers could still happen. The teams that are joining the new season are Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton whilst Luton, Sheffield United and Burnley are on their way back down to the second division. Hopefully, when we get to the end of the season these predictions aren’t too far off.
20th – Ipswich Town
Embed from Getty ImagesI think 20th there is no debate, I would be surprised if anyone making these predictions don’t have at least Ipswich getting relegated. Kieran McKenna has done an amazing job getting back to back promotions but that only leaves the majority of the squad either championship or league 1 calibre players. They have spent a lot of money on the likes of Omari Hutchinson and Liam Delap but these are not premier league calibre players yet, don’t get me wrong they will be good in the future but Ipswich should have focused on players that will keep them up. Any team that gets promoted to the Premier League should spend at least 3 years focusing on not getting relegated and Ipswich haven’t done that in this window and that will be their downfall.
19th – Nottingham Forest
Embed from Getty ImagesForest were very much the worst team last season excluding the relegated teams and have sold a big chunk of players. The biggest purchase of the window has been Elliot Anderson for £35 million and no disrespect but that is an awful purchase with Fulham signing Smith Rowe for £27 million there was tons of better players to improve the squad. If they have any hope of staying up they will have to be very reliant on Gibbs-White having another phenomenal season.
18th – Southampton
Embed from Getty ImagesA young inexperienced manager with a young inexperienced squad is not a great match for the Premier League. If you compare Southampton with Leicester, Leicester look ready to fight to stay up with the standard of players they have who are accustom to the league. For the saints to have any hope of staying up they must sign some old experienced players to help when they go through winless runs.
17th – Leicester City
Embed from Getty ImagesSimilar to what I mentioned before Leicester don’t have quality but they have experience with Coady, Ndidi and Winks. The signing of De Cordova-Reid is a really great pick up and with Steve Cooper at the helm, the foxes must love their chances with the system they have of staying up.
16th – Brentford
Embed from Getty ImagesLooking at Brentford’s squad it does not look like a premier league team even with the acquisition of Fabio Carvalho, it is only Ivan Toney that is a standout player for them. With two weeks left of the window anything can happen and if Toney was to leave that would leave Brentford in a very big predicament…
15th – Bournemouth
Embed from Getty ImagesIt is make or break for Bournemouth now in this window, the £65 million from Solanke needs to be reinvested wisely as the 19 goals they got from him last season will go a miss if replacements aren’t found. Not scoring then leads to not winning and they could slowly fall closer and closer to the relegation zone. The only saving grace for the cherries is it isn’t their first rodeo in the Prem and that is what will keep them up.
14th – Fulham
Embed from Getty ImagesOne Word – “Palhinha”. It will be very interesting to see how they cope without him this season as he has been the standout player for them. Fulham not signing a replacement is only going to hurt them so with them finishing 13th last season, I believe they will drop back at least a place with no Palhinha but it could be more if by the end of the window there is still no successor.
13th – Crystal Palace
Embed from Getty ImagesSince Oliver Glasner’s appointment, Palace have looked like an entirely new team with him even getting Mateta firing on all cylinders. My issue is and why I have them dropping 3 places down the table is the loss of Olise. He was the brightest star at the football club and with his departure places all the pressure on Eze to pick up the slack. Even with Mateta scoring, if you take away one of your main providers you are not going to be going up in the table. If they are able to spend the £50 million on a suitable replacement, then they could follow on from the end of last season.
12th – Everton
Embed from Getty ImagesThe last season at Goodison Park means every home game the fans are going to be loud and the players will perform. If you take away the points deduction from last season they would have finished 12th and that is where I have them for this season with a step in the right direction after all their financial troubles.
11th – Brighton
Embed from Getty ImagesBrighton are a funny one because they can have games where they play brilliant and beat the top teams but then can easily lose to team fighting to stay up. A manager only 31 worries me similar to McKenna at Ipswich as when a decision he makes is not liked by the leaders of the team and them being older it will instantly create a weird dynamic at the club.
10th – Wolves
Embed from Getty ImagesWolves are very much my underdog team as I’m a very big fan of Gary O’Neil and think he can do wonders with this team. A lot of people will have them struggle with the departures but £100 million they got from Neto and Kilman gives them a lot of money to spend going into the last two weeks of the window. If they can bring in someone who can score goals then they can break into the top half of the table.
9th – West Ham
Embed from Getty ImagesI might have been slightly harsh keeping West Ham in the same spot as they have easily had the best transfer window with the calibre of signings made: Fullkrug, Todibo and Rodriguez to name a few. However, they were 8 points away from 8th last season and I think it is too much of a task to gain those points this season with all the teams ahead hoping to improve as well.
8th – Aston Villa
Embed from Getty ImagesChampions League football will be Villa’s downfall as they sadly don’t have the depth to replicate their amazing performance last season. Losing Douglas Luiz and Moussa Diaby is only going to hurt them with the amount of fixtures they will have, especially as the Champions League group stage is now 8 games opposed to 6. They also cannot expect for Ollie Watkins to have the same output as he did last season so they’re only going to lose ground.
7th – Newcastle United
Embed from Getty ImagesSame Team. Same Manager. Same Position – Nothing else to say.
6th – Chelsea
Embed from Getty ImagesChelsea had a very odd year with a team that finished 6th but very much looked like they could have finished in the bottom half of the table. The hundreds of millions of pounds they spent looked like it was just burnt with there £200 million partnership of Caicedo and Fernandez looking like they couldn’t do a job at Accrington Stanley. The signing of Cole Palmer was easily signing of the season as he completely carried Chelsea but he can’t do it alone and with Pochettino being sacked there is an aura at Chelsea that isn’t quite clear. Maresca almost cost Leicester the league with how poorly they played at times so I wouldn’t be shocked if there’s a different manager by January but the three of Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham I could expect to flip flop around and any of these clubs could come in this 4th spot.
5th – Tottenham Hotspur
Embed from Getty ImagesAnother team in the same position – it’s not boring at all. Solanke being signed strengthens the attack and adds consistency to the side but in the last 5 seasons Spurs have only broken into the top 4 once. Spurs will always be ‘Spursy’, they will push for top 4 don’t get me wrong but you can always count on them failing.
4th – Liverpool
Embed from Getty ImagesIt’s going to be a big change at Anfield with no Klopp and with no incomings yet it really begs the question, what is Slot and the board thinking?. When Liverpool signed Arne Slot as Klopp’s replacement it was met with a lot of confusion by even Liverpool fans as he didn’t seem like the optimal choice. From the outside it looks like he was last resort and just brought in just to temporarily fill the gap. I would not be shocked if by the end of the season we see him let go and Xabi Alonso after 1 more year in Germany is brought in at the top seat. Liverpool still have quality throughout their team and should be able to make a push for top 4.
3rd – Manchester United
Embed from Getty ImagesUnited could finish anywhere from 10th to 2nd this season but as a United fan and not slightly biased in any sort of way I’m optimistic that INEOS will stick with Ten Hag and build on the 2 trophies he won. With Varane and Martial going and big money spent on the defence bringing in De Ligt, Mazraoui, Yoro and giving support to Hojlund with the signing of Zirkzee. Whatever happens though they cannot end the summer window without signing a midfielder because if United are stuck with Casemiro in midfield again they will be closer to 10th than 2nd. With all the uncertainty around the club we could come back to this prediction 6 months down the line and United are sat in 13th with Southgate as their manager and in talks with signing Eric Dier. Please for the love of God let’s hope that doesn’t happen.
2nd – Manchester City
Embed from Getty ImagesI’ll be honest City are only here because I don’t want to put them 1st as I’m fed up of seeing them win the league and surely they can’t win 5 in a row – Can They? With Alvarez leaving for Atletico, City have an exuberant amount of money to spend and as I am writing this have been linked with Luis Diaz but I doubt that move would happen. I wouldn’t put it past them making at least one big purchase before the end of the window. Surprisingly, City weren’t at their best last season only picking up the premier league – I say ‘only’ like it is very easy to win the league – with De Bruyne aging and maybe Haaland’s last year in Manchester don’t get me wrong they will put up a fight for this title and if they don’t end up winning it, City will make sure it at least goes down to the final day.
1st – Arsenal
Embed from Getty ImagesI have to be honest I have no clue who is going to win the league, my heart says City can’t win 5 in a row but then I look at Liverpool and Chelsea both have a new manager, and I don’t believe United are there quite yet as much as I want them to be. Logically that only leaves Arsenal who have finished only 5 points and 2 points behind Man City. My only gripe is they need a striker, playing Havertz up front for this season will not cut the mustard. Signing Calafiori definitely strengthens there defence but they must be looking at buying an Ivan Toney or Victor Osimhen especially with Nketiah looking to leave. The main reason Arsenal are in 1st place is because I don’t want to put City 1st.
